What is salvation? Salvation is God’s action of grace whereby people are delivered from their sinful nature into newness and fullness of life. It is something done for us by the will and work of God, through Jesus Christ. Salvation denotes a liberation or release from the effect of sin. It is not that we are removed to a safe place in existence where danger cannot overtake us, but rather that we find an unexpected and underserved power to stand fast and not be shaken in the midst of danger. Salvation occurs when human life is founded upon openness to God. Thus salvation is receiving God’s love, assurance, comfort, hope and protection.
What must I do to be saved? According to Scripture, you need to:
- Realize that you are a sinner. If you do not realize you are a sinner, you will not recognize your need for a savior. "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Next you must...
- Repent of your sins. Repent means to make an about face. It means you are willing to turn your back on sin to follow Jesus and to receive him as your Savior and Lord. Finally, to demonstrate true belief means to be will to...
- Receive. To truly receive is to trust in and depend on Jesus Christ alone to be the Lord of our lives here and now and our Savior for all eternity. It takes trust in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life.
Those who realize they are sinners, repent of their sins, and receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are "born again" (John 3:3)-not physically, but spiritually. The reality of our salvation is not dependent on our feelings but rather on the promise of the Savior who says: "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life" (John 5:24). If you would like to be saved today prayer this prayer taken from the book of Romans, Chapter 10, Verse 9 aloud and believe it in your heart: "Dear Lord, I am a sinner and I want to be saved. I repent of my sins and ask that you forgive me. I confess with my mouth that the Lord Jesus died for my sins and believe in my hear that You, God, raised Jesus from the dead. I open my heart for you to come in. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray. AMEN."

BEING SAVED AND HAVING ETERNAL LIFE IS NOT BASED ON WHAT YOU CAN DO BUT ON WHAT JESUS CHRIST HAS DONE.
Is salvation identified with any particular denomination or religious movement? No. Salvation crosses all denominational lines. No sect or religious movement of the Christian faith can claim a monopoly on salvation. "Whosoever calls upon the God in faith and believes on Jesus Christ shall be saved (Romans 10:12-13).
By what name and person are we saved? We are saved by the name and person of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:10-12)
Can Christians lose their salvation? No. Christ said "Ye must be born again (John 3:7), not "ye must be born again and again and again. In Philippians, Paul praises God for the confidence that "he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion (1:6). As A.M.E.s we believe that when God saves us, He does so to the uttermost. In other words, once saves, always saved (John 10:27-29). We A.M.E.s believe that when God saves us, He does so to the uttermost. However, many churches believe that one can fall out of the arch or state of salvation or move out of the "safety-zone" by no longer living under faith in Jesus Christ. However, Salvation is a life process that reaches its final completion after death.
