About

About Our Church

LaPlata AME Church is a global community rooted in Charles County, called to service and to liberating love for all. As part of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, we stand in a historic tradition of Black faith, resistance, and renewal that proclaims God’s concern for the oppressed and God’s presence in the struggle for freedom. Our AME heritage shapes how we worship, how we serve, and how we understand the liberating power of the gospel in our own time.

In this spirit, we seek to be a community where every person is seen as bearing the image of God. We welcome people of every background, race, age, gender, family story, and life journey, trusting that God gathers a beautifully diverse body. At LaPlata, worship, prayer, and Bible study are spaces where faith grows, and community thrives, and where we learn to love one another across difference.

We believe God’s love is active, not abstract. That means serving in our local community, advocating for the vulnerable, and creating spaces of hospitality and belonging. Whether you are exploring faith for the first time, returning to church, or looking for a spiritual home that honors your story, you are invited to journey with a global community of liberating love.
